ISO 14001 Training

ISO 14001 training comes in several varieties. Some training is there to help support the creation and maintenance of a environmental management system for a company, while other training is for individuals that will be certified for auditing the EMS of companies for certification bodies. Here is a listing of some of the most popular ISO 14001 training courses:

ISO 14001 Lead Auditor Course

The ISO 14001 lead auditor training is a four to five day training course with a focus on understanding and using the ISO 14001 environmental management system standard to audit environmental systems and assess company processes against these requirements. Role play of different auditing situations will often form part of this training, and there is an exam at the end to verify knowledge and competence of the attendee. It is only with a certified course that a participant can attain certification as an ISO 14001 Lead Auditor, and the course can only be presented by a company that itself has been accredited to deliver the ISO 14001 lead auditor training.

A certified lead auditor can be hired by a certification body – the companies that can grant ISO 14001 certification to companies and are hired by an organization to audit their Environmental Management System against the ISO 14001 standard. This course is often used by implementers of ISO 14001 not just to learn more about the standard, but to also find out the criteria that will be used by the certification bodies.

ISO 14001 Internal Auditor Course

The ISO 14001 internal auditor training is commonly a two or three day training course that is based on the ISO 14001 lead auditor training described above. The course only grants a certificate of completion and does not lead an individual certification to audit external companies, and does not include an exam.

ISO 14001 Awareness and Implementation Courses

There are many different training courses to help individuals learn about the elements of ISO 14001 and how to implement them. Some examples are ”Implementing an environmental management system”, “Understanding ISO 14001”, “Aspects and impacts of ISO 14001”, “Essentials of ISO 14001” and “How to set environmental objectives”. These are often one to two day courses, some are available as online e-learning courses, and some are short webinars which provide executive overviews of ISO 14001. These courses are not applicable to be certified to.

Who are the Common Training Providers
